NSW air update: 25% NOx and VOCs cuts needed; tougher VOCs limit for oil industry; carbon offset bus passes

Acting NSW Premier John Watkins says companies will be able to bulk-buy bus passes for employees that will include a levy to offset carbon emissions. And, on the day a government report reveals 25% cuts in VOCs and NOx might be needed to 'to consistently meet' national air quality goals, NSW Assistant Environment Minister Verity Firth says the government will 'be tough' in negotiations on tighter VOC limits for Sydney's summer-blend petrol, in an effort to prevent high-smog days.(plus audio)

Environment groups warn business: be wary of retailer claims on 'green energy'

An alliance of major environment groups is warning businesses wanting to use their electricity purchases to drive new investment in renewable energy generation that some energy retailers are providing "seriously misleading" descriptions of their green electricity products.


ACCC warns on 'green' marketing

The federal government's consumer watchdog is set to "ramp-up" its scrutiny of green marketing claims, including 'carbon neutral' claims that rely on poorly regulated offset schemes.
