The backers of a project that would export electricity from Darwin to Singapore have made their first EPBC referral, while WA's energy minister has expressed doubts about the viability of sub-sea cables exporting power to Asia.
The Western Australian EPA has announced it will require Fortescue Metals Group to provide extra information on greenhouse gas emissions from a proposed gas-fired power plant at its Solomon iron ore mine.
Fortescue acknowledges its proposed gas-fired power station in the Pilbara will emit more than 600,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas annually, but says this is much lower than its originally approved plan.
