On the campaign trail, Scott Morrison has named the beneficiaries of more than $0.5 billion in federal funding for hydrogen and CCS developments in the Northern Territory and Queensland, including an enhanced oil recovery project.

Ahead of a shareholder advisory climate vote at this year's annual meeting, Santos has released a new climate report describing its plans for multiple CCS hubs.

The Western Australian government plans to introduce a Bill this year that will provide legislative certainty for carbon capture and storage projects in the state.

Santos says it has proven capacity to store six million tonnes of CO2, and can probably sequester 100 million tonnes, putting it on track to be the first Australian company to make money out of CCS.

The Victorian government is negotiating with potential buyers of a Bass Strait CO2 storage hub that will be an essential component of a proposed coal-to-hydrogen export industry.

Chevron has this month voluntarily cancelled 80,000 ACCUs, as part of its undertaking to surrender 5.3 million carbon credits of various types by the end of July.
