Victoria has warned the Federal Government that 'onerous or unrealistic' standards could stifle the development of low-emissions brown coal-fired power plants, while AGL and Origin argue tighter standards could render unnecessary any 'CCS-ready' obligation.
A coal council report released by Energy Minister Martin Ferguson after a year's delay warns that a suite of CCS demonstration projects will cost up to $17 billion over the next decade, while the council is also calling for the Government to rethink project timelines and says 'CCS-ready' standards should be applied to large industrial sites and gas-fired plants.
