Senate inquiry into RET amendments now due Tuesday

The Senate committee inquiry into the Rudd Government's proposal to split the Renewable Energy Target scheme, originally scheduled to report today, is now due to report on Tuesday.

The slight delay means the legislation is now likely to be debated in the Senate on Thursday.

Aldi joins 'carbon reduction label' scheme

Aldi has made a cautious foray into carbon labelling, announcing that its "everyday" olive oil range will carry "carbon reduction" labels by the end of the year.

The carbon reduction label program, developed by the UK Carbon Trust, provides consumers with information on the product's carbon footprint and includes a commitment by the producer to reduce emissions.

The program is being promoted in Australia by Planet Ark.

Aldi's managing director of buying, Tom Daunt, told CE Daily in a statement that the company was keen to expand the number of products carrying the label but would be "guided by consumers' response to the initiative".

Governments now embracing green buildings: report

All levels of government now have programs and policies to support sustainable building, according to a progress report by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

"In the past two years, most jurisdictions have developed well-defined policies that guide whole-of-government strategies to encourage sustainable building," GBCA chief executive Romilly Madew said.
